Norfolk Reed (Phragmites australis)
This is a lovely tall growing Reed is ideal for large ponds and lakes (not recomended for small ponds). They have slim stems with leaves growing from the stem and are suitable for medium to large ponds and lakes. Also used in thatching and reedbed water treatment systems.
In the right conditions (like lakes) they can grow as high as 8ft but are more commonly seen at around 4ft in smaller ponds.
This reed will grow in water depths down to 18" (50cm) or in moist or boggy areas.
The listing is for one plant and will be a young one bewteen 6" and 12" in length, but it is the root that is the important part that will grow new stems each year and will send out runners with new plants.
Note - if you are buying this in the winter, you will receive a root that may resemble a dead stick! But do not worry, in the spring time it will shoot and grow.
This plants can be planted directly into boggy areas or into the bottom of lakes/ponds. If there is a liner, we suggest using a water planting basket. Use aquatic soil, topped with heavy gravel or large stones. Alternate ways can be offered if you contact us.
